True Colors Theatre Company presents James Baldwin's 1954 play THE AMEN CORNER, directed by Andrea Frye and opening Wed., JULY 16, as its contribution to this year's National Black Arts Festival. Set in a storefront church in Harlem run by powerful pastor Margaret Anderson, The Amen Corner combines charged family drama with fiery scenes in the pulpit and has plenty of leeway for soaring musical interludes from the chorus. Atlanta theater-goers with long memories will recall that True Colors artistic director Kenny Leon directed a scorching production of the show for the Alliance in 1996, with Carol Mitchell-Leon.
