TODAY’S CREATIVE LOVING PROFILE
The GIPSY KINGS are in fine form on their latest CD, 2007's Pasajero, another rousing collection of mid- and fast-tempo interpretations of the "Rumba Catalana" style of flamenco that has made them an international sensation. The album even takes the mournful Cuban son classic "Chan Chan" – the big hit of the Buena Vista Social Club album – and practically turns it into a swirl of flamenco energy. But then, this is the same band of gypsies fearless enough to take on versions of "Volare," "My Way" and even the Eagles' "Hotel California" (improving on the latter by a Catalonian mile). The latest album continues the band's artistic resurgence that began with 2004's Roots, offering more reasons to catch this show Sat., AUG. 9. $30-$86. 8 p.m. Chastain Park Amphitheater, 4469 Stella Drive. 404-233-2227. www.ticketmaster.
