Ballethnic Dance Company's URBAN NUTCRACKER takes the famed Tchaikovsky ballet out of 19th-century Europe and moves it a little closer to home Sat., NOV. 22. Set on Atlanta's Auburn Avenue in the 1940s, Urban Nutcracker features reggae rag dolls, a Brown Sugar Fairy instead of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and a Nutcracker soldier based on African-American activist Marcus Garvey. Choreographed by company co-founder Waverly T. Lucas II, the cast features more than 80 dancers of ages ranging from 4 years old to 60. Through Nov. 23. $29-$52. Ok, it's at the Ferst Center. The seats there are too small and uncomfortable and the prices always too high. Oh well, maybe next time at a better venue?
