February 25 Wednesday

Following President Lincoln's death, the letters in his mailbag were guarded by his single surviving son, only to be seen by the former president's secretary, personal assistant and the assistant's daughter. During the final installment of LETTERS TO LINCOLN at the Carter Center, historical interpreter and professional storyteller Cathy Kaemmerlen plays the role of Helen Nicolay, the daughter of Lincoln's personal assistant. By reading revealing, often humorous historical letters addressed to Lincoln, Nicolay paints a picture of the White House during the administration of the Civil War president. Free-$8. 11 a.m. 441 Freedom Parkway. 404-865-7100. www.jimmycarterlibrary.gov. (Lizzy Encarnacao)
