TODAY’S CREATIVE LOVING PROFILE
One of the most memorable indie gems in recent years, 2005's Junebug managed to do the South justice with warmth, intelligence and precisely observed details, rather than write it off as a backwater run by sex-starved rednecks (i.e. Black Snake Moan). Playwright and actor (and Winston-Salem, N.C., native) ANGUS MACLACHLAN's script concerns a North Carolina boy's (Alessandro Nivola) homecoming with his sophisticated new folk-art-dealer wife (Embeth Davidtz) in tow. The film, directed by MacLachan's hometown friend Phil Morrison, earned a Best First Screenplay nomination at the 2006 Independent Spirit Awards. On Thurs., MARCH 22, MacLachan and Junebug's folk-art consultant TOM PATTERSON speak about their work after a screening of the film. Free. 8 p.m. Emory University, White Hall, 301 Dowman Drive, room 205. 404-712-4390. visualarts.emory.edu/events.
