Rally: Dream for Darfur Olympic Torch Relay

Sun., Dec. 2
Published 11.28.07

More than three years ago, the United States declared the humanitarian crisis in Darfur a genocide. With China's award of the 2008 summer Olympic Games, a country already under fire for human-rights abuses, groups such as STAND, a student anti-genocide coalition, have challenged China's relationship with the Sudanese government and oil industry. On Sun., DEC. 2, activists from local high schools, colleges and human-rights organizations gather for the DREAM FOR DARFUR OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY, a symbolic flame on its way to Washington, D.C. calling for justice in Sudan. Rev. Joseph E. Lowery speaks after the torch travels through downtown. Free. 2-4 p.m. The King Center, 449 Auburn Ave. 800-917-2034. www.standnow.org/dreamfordarfur.
