Creative quest

On 2-foot-high weaves, Flashbang party and Cherry's opening

If you happened to be in downtown Atlanta the weekend of Feb. 18 and you saw police horses walking around without their tails, it had much to do with the fact that the Atlanta-based Bronner Brothers international hair show, also referred to as a weave-a-thon, was being held at the Georgia World Congress Center. I simply want to know, what types of jobs do the women who wear these crazy hairdo's hold? With hair seemingly piled 2 feet high on your head, in all sorts of colors -- and I ain't exaggerating -- how do you go into the boss and ask for a raise?

On a different vibe, I headed over to the Fountainhead Lounge Monday for a flash animation exhibition and launch party for Flashbang.com's new website. If you're sitting back in your Aeron chair wondering what the hell a flashbang is, jus' hold on a sec. They're an Atlanta-based company specializing in various aspects of event coordination, web management and public relations, as well as Flash design & development, with a high emphasis on the promotion of local talent and a growing international audience. It was quite refreshing to be in the company of so many creative types who support the community on a whole, despite the fact many compete for the same clients.

Almost overshadowing the event was the crowd. Listen up folks, that was way too damm many people in that spot -- enough to turn a few very eager viewers away, myself almost included. Next time, get a bigger venue. I love the FL, but when capacity gets to the level it did on this good night, it gets a bit annoying. Take if for what it's worth.

Continuing on my creative journey, Cherry, the long delayed, nevertheless here, new Midtown restaurant and bar was my destination. It's brought to you by Ray Sieradzki & Paul Gibbs, co-owners of Leopard Lounge, and Tom Nahas, former GM of Savu, along with Dee Grimes, who brought us Buckhead Lulu's Bait Shack. I had a chance to check it out at a mid-week party, arranged by the scooter riding, fly ass Party Princess Suzanne Shaw Cashin. I must say that when the elements of good food, planning and design, along with a nice checkbook, come together, it should be no surprise that one can come up with a place like this. Way to go people.

The joint certainly has WOW appeal, thanks to "architect fighter" (her words not mine) Patti Krohngold, who really put it down with the interior work. It was simply on the money, especially the 16-seat private dining room. The food was served up by culinary visionary chef Christopher Moore.

I arrived early, because like many of you, I wanted to see the Eminem and Elton John performance on the Grammys, but I wound up staying late because I was having a really good time, chilling out on the balcony with one of the Southeast's hippest retailers, Andrew Capron; his lovely wife, stylist Kristen Valentino Capron; clothier David Hirschfeld; and my road dawg Tony Sunshine.

It was nice to shoot the breeze about all sorts of things, especially the opening of the new Andrew store beside Angelo & Maxi's on Peachtree. You may not be familiar with the store because of it's existing location on Andrews Drive, but look out, that's all about to change. The new store opens mid-March.

With the weekend coming to a close for me, and just beginning for others, I had a chance to help Hip Inc.'s Pamela Green and her friend Serena Patrick celebrate their birthdays at eleven50. Some of you may have just had a heart attack when I mentioned that I attended a nightclub. I'm not anti-nightclub, I'm just pro-conversation, and many of Atlanta's clubs are more conducive for a cocktail and blaringly loud music versus talking. So if ya have somewhere for me to check out, bring it on.

One more thing before checking out this week. If the name Pamela Green is fresh in your head, it perhaps has something to do with the fact that she was in last Sunday's Parade magazine article on "What People Earn." It just goes to show you that when you're persistent and have chutzpah, many things are possible.

Hug a Dread.
