The facts are raw, simple, and unfortunately all but humor-proof: The U.S and its allies see Africa as nothing more than a low-rent staging areas for whatever criminal hyjinx it has on tap at a given moment. These days it usually includes breeding the right monotheism, arming the most trustworthy thugs against the other guys, and nurturing a region so devastated that we loyal homies can only thank our lucky stars that we have it so good.
Any good imperialist country can crow, 'thank God for Africa', and mean it. Or, alternately: 'A nice place to pillage; wouldn't want to live there'.
