My guess is that this little gavotte was just as tedious for the agents as it was baffling for you. Some tin foil hat wearing pants wetter in a coffee shop, high on 4 mocha breve's, calls the FBI because some dude that looks a little like a conglomeration of photos he's seen on the nightly news bearing middle eastern names walks in with a pile of paper that he's reading intently and might be planning something. Now the FBI has to send agents out to track down the guy, question the poor sot, and figure out what he was reading because the complaint is documented and nobody wants to be on the answering end of the question if something goes wrong. Such is the truth of the matter in these situations. They aren't looking to crucify you in most cases, they just have to clear a complaint.
