Atlanta Tea Party at the Capitol

Published 02.27.09

Hundreds of people stood in the pouring rain outside the Capitol February 27, 2009 to protest the Obama administration's stimulus package. The “Atlanta Tea Party" was one of many Tea Party events that took place across the nation February 27, 2009.

The idea originated from CNBC analyst Rick Santelli’s on-air rants last week for a new “tea party” to protest the stimulus plan from the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange while backed by howls and whistles from traders on the floor.  A You Tube clip of the rave has received more then 800,000 views. At the Atlanta event this afternoon people clumped together under an array of umbrellas, many getting soaked to the bone during the rainstorm.

The 40-minute demonstration included speeches by a few members of the Georgia Legislature. The crowd whooped and roared as people from the microphone railed about the “socialists running the country,” called for extensive tax cuts, read the Declaration of Independence and defended the sanctity of the Constitution. The event ended with demonstrators dumping tea bags into a bucket. I guess the revolution starts now?

Where were these same folks when the previous administration had stimulus packages as well? They sure as hell weren't protesting then because protesting the Bush Administration was "Un-American".....

If McCain had won and proposed the same exact things as Obama, these people would be cheering him own and saying what a great plan it is. Makes me glad I voted for neither candidate.

Newsflash folks, there's been "socialism" in our government even before the term was even coined.

If we had the media that we have today in the 1930s, FDR's New Deal programs would have never happened, as Hoover would have gotten a second term.

We're all going to have to bite the bullet folks whether we like it or not. You can't pin Obama for this (The guy has been in office barely a month, and folks are attacking him worse than they did Clinton.), nor can you fully blame Bush for this. The seeds of our own destruction have been sown over a number of years through numerous administrations.

Hundreds of protesters? Really? One slovenly state employee doesn't want that dirty federal money. That's front page AJC. I thought state employees didn't publically express political opinions except, of course, the opinion of Governor Sunny P.

Those who think Georgia does not need funds for education, psychiatric services, addiction treatment, medical care, education, blah, blah, blah are just the lemming cool aid drinkers who will pave the way to perdition. You think Georgia has a long term plan for your future? Just leave your house now and practice living under the bridge on any street, there's your future. AJC, Fox News, and your interests all in sinc, except with the rest of America.

This week's real news is that Sonny P. our governor has cancelled the community based regional boards and made them Governor appointees. So it's bass fishing and abstinence
for the lot of you. Just say no to hope. Bass or flounder?
