Bethany Marchman's play toys
Bethany Marchman co-owns an underground gallery, Rabbit Hole, and is known for her clever, high-meets-low fusion of art history and kitsch. Her Caravaggio-inspired portrait of Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka was a highlight of Alcove Gallery's December Wonko show. Marchman's work can currently be seen in another Alcove show, Toyland, and in Sons of the South at Foundation One Gallery.
The Atlanta Creatives Project: "Atlantacreatives.org is the blog site for an amazing project by photographer Neda Abghari that spotlights local artists in all different fields — visual art, music, performance, etc. It's all about supporting Atlanta's creative community, which is so important."
The Plaza Theatre on Ponce: "One of the few independent movie theaters around. They show gems like Blade Runner and Repo Man ... heaven!"
Starlight Six Drive-In Theatre: "I didn't know drive-in theaters still existed until I moved to Atlanta in '97. It's my favorite place to go in the summertime — and the Drive-Invasion is always a blast."
East Atlanta Village: "The greatest neighborhood in Atlanta!"
Alice in Wonderland: "The best of my favorite genre of 'children's stories that are really for grown ups' ... I love literature and films that put a young girl in the classical 'hero' role. I get gobs of inspiration from it."
Oakland Cemetery: "I went there with my fiance about a month ago, and I'm kicking myself for never going before. It's so eerie and beautiful. It's just sitting there in the middle of the city like a time capsule."
