The nonfiction book The Devil's Tickets takes its name from a scornful term New England Puritans used against playing cards. Subtitled A Night of Bridge, a Fatal Hand and a New American Age, the book explores the rise of America's fascination with contract bridge in the 1920s and the sensational murder trial of Myrtle Bennett, accused of gunning down her husband in Kansas City, Mo., in 1929. Author and former Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter GARY M. POMERANTZ reads from and signs copies of The Devil's Tickets at the Carter Center, where A Cappella Books will have copies of the book for sale. Free. 7 p.m. 441 Freedom Parkway. www.acappellabooks.com.
