Ferrol Sams combines vivid characters and witty commentary and paints a historical picture of a quaint Southern town in Down Town. His elusive narrator leaves the reader both confused and in suspense for the first few chapters. The narrative unfolds like when your grandpappy tells stories about his ancestors. Sams' Southern storytelling makes it difficult to divulge the smallest details concerning the plot, lest the story be spoiled.
Noon Sun., Sept. 2. Decatur Library stage.
