TODAY’S CREATIVE LOVING PROFILE
Oscar Wilde claimed, "Life imitates art far more than art imitates life." Not so in STEVE EARLE's case. Like his character Walon on HBO's Peabody Award-winning series "The Wire," Earle is no stranger to addiction. An alum of the school of hard knocks – heroin dependency, a fistful of failed marriages and run-ins with the law – Earle left the jailhouse a better man: racking up multiple Grammys; publishing a play and a collection of short stories; and taking on political activism in strong stances against the death penalty and War on Terror. Earle delivers his lyrics, like his lines, in a thoughtful, syrupy drawl at the Atlanta Botanical Garden with Joe Pug in support of Townes, a 15-song offering penned by the late singer/songwriter Townes Van Zandt. $35. 8 p.m. 1345 Piedmont Ave. 404-249-6400. www.concertsinthegarden.org.
