Austin, Texas' Asylum Street Spankers are an all-acoustic band that performs whacked-out, Vaudeville-like tunes sans electricity. A heavy-metal cowboy poet, Wam is the man who brought you such crowd-pleasers as "Beer" and "Winning the War on Drugs," tunes that are to-the-point and guaranteed to make you bust a gut laughing; lyrically they were one long, subtle, witty left-turn.
On Suck, however, Wammo reveals his secret desire to be Kid Rock. On this country-rap disc, his penchant for the goofy runs unchecked. The result is something between an extremely indulgent Cheech & Chong album, plot-less radio theater and, whenever a song interrupts, a collection of rock-style, grit-eatin' white-rapper rejects.
This review is cruel, yes, but you deserve a warning. Hear Wammo on a Spankers' disc instead, and break the suck barrier.
