On Monday July 16, 2007, hours before his first scheduled execution date,
the state Pardons and Paroles Board issued a 90-day stay for Troy Davis.
Davis was sentenced to death in 1991 for the murder of off-duty Savannah
police officer Mark Allen MacPhail. Since his trial, seven of nine witnesses
whose testimony helped convict Davis have recanted. The board's decision
followed a week of protests, including this July 12 protest in Little Five
Points.

History will deal harshly with the United States of America with regards to this death penalty epoch. Noel E Cain (Australia)

The actions of the Justice system are criminal, as if Lena Baker wasn't bad enough, we now have the Troy Davis bloodlust visable on the Savannah proscecuters, State Pardons and Parole Board and the State Supreme Court. How many minorities are on that board? Just like the PSC, none, as if a mandate were issued that Jim Crow rule is back... What would a new trial reveal about the evidence or lack of that led to the first conviction. What good will it do for a pardon to be given to Troy Davis in 2068?
