Visual art: Paint as Subject

Tues., April 14
Published 04.02.09

Using paint, artists can depict landscapes, portraits and bowls of fruit. But can bowls of fruit, portraits and landscapes allow the paint itself to be the subject matter? In PAINT AS SUBJECT, four artists tackle this complex challenge by applying and manipulating paint so that the medium becomes the subject. Using trowels, brushes and other tools to create colorful images, the artists stroke, scratch and layer paint to show its value. Through May 6. Free. Opening reception April 10, 7 p.m.; Tues.-Fri., 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sat., 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sun.-Mon., by appointment. Emily Amy Gallery, 1000 Marietta St., Suite 208. 404-877-5626. www.emilyamygallery.com.
