Initially created as a means of wrapping and later writing, hand papermaking became a traditional art form in Japan many centuries ago. In 1978, author Sukey Hughes published her landmark book, Washi: The World of Japanese Paper, in an attempt to keep the technique alive and thriving in the 20th century. With SUKEY HUGHES AND THE WORLD OF JAPANESE PAPER: A RETURN TO THE SOURCE, Hughes brings her expertise to the Robert C. Williams Paper Museum in the form of an exhibition, complete with photos, documents and artifacts gathered during her research in Japan. Through Jan. 29. Free. Mon.-Fri., 9 a.m.-5 p.m. 500 10th St. 404-894-7840. www.ipst.gatech.edu/amp.
