DOME SWEET DOME: Viewed just before sunrise, the Mercedes Benz Stadium closely resembles something out of 'Blade Runner'.

Almost one year and $2 billion removed from its August 26 completion, the Mercedes Benz Stadium remains an ominous glimpse into Atlanta’s growing efforts to modernize itself for the 100,000 new residents moving in every year. On March 28, the Mercedes Benz Stadium announced the desire to hire more than 10,000 volunteers for Super Bowl LIII on February 3.

“We cannot succeed as a host committee in what we’re trying to do in hosting Super Bowl 53 without these 10,000 volunteers,” Erin Shearer, director of marketing and communications for the Atlanta Host Committee says. “Truly, the success of the game is dependent in part on these trained and vetted volunteers that are really gonna help represent Atlanta in a first-class manner.”

To be more specific, these 10,000 “high-energy individuals” will be stationed around the more touristy parts of Atlanta, with the mission of making visitors feel safe and welcomed. Those qualified to pass through the rigorous multistep hiring process shouldn’t expect pay though, as the members of TEAM ATL welcoming those who make the Super Bowl pilgrimage will be doing so purely out of the goodness of their hearts.

The efforts of these brave volunteers won't be all for naught, as they will be handsomely compensated with a custom TEAM ATL jersey, jacket, and hat, valued at around $100. Surprisingly, the city of Atlanta received more than 5,000 applications just one day after announcing the need for volunteers. Interested in securing one of those sweet TEAM ATL jerseys? Don’t fret, applications for this illustrious gig are being accepted until July 31.
