Full frontal’s Samantha Bee and Padma Lakshmi discussed undocumented
immigrants in a Top Chef parody on her August 15 TBS show. “Support the
undocumented immigrants that support you,” she said before unveiling a t-shirt
celebrating the unsung heroes of the food industry. Proceeds from the t-shit
benefit Atlanta’s own Giving Kitchen. How cool is that?
Beginning this October, fans at Philips Arena can dig into B’s Cracklin BBQ thanks
to a partnership with the Atlanta Hawks. Another collaboration is back this August 18 when Southern Souffle’s Erika Council returns with her stuffed
biscuits. We hear she’s cooking shrimp and grits too. Breakfast begins at 9am at
2061 Main St.
C. Ellet’s bartender Jeff Banks took the crown (and $10,000) from Bedlam Vodka
sponsored Barfight on August 14. Maybe he can shake one up for you at The
Brooklyn Brewery’s Beer Mansion, an all night music and beer fest, is coming to
Atlanta for the first time with rare beers from the NYC-based craft brewery and
Decatur’s Wild Heaven Brewery. To go along with brews and bands, there will be
food from Bon Ton and OK Yaki Japanese. Beer Mansion is from 9 p.m.-2 a.m. on September
14 qt 787 Windsor.
As summer cools down, hatch chiles are heating up. The annual Foxeria del Sol
Hatch Chile Festival returns to Westside (1200 Howell Mill Road). Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q,
Taqueria del Sol, and Charleston’s Home Team Barbeque are teaming up with
unlimited bites, live music, and local beer to celebrate the flavorful green pepper.

A second location of Zinburger Wine & Burger Bar is opening soon in Dunwoody.

Before Chef Joel Penn joined Wrecking Bar as chef de cuisine, he had a supper club
going on in Athens. We’re lucky dicks because he’s bringing it back to Atlanta. Tasty
Beast Supper Club starts it’s quarterly dinners on August 19 for part one of two part
Water/Fire dinner. Penn and Will Cantrell (Staplehouse) will be in the kitchen, while Amanda Newsome handles front of house. For more info and tickets.
Not sure where they are hiding it, but someone stole nearly $100,000 worth of
ramen noodles in a large trailer parked at a Fayette County Chevron this week.
Double congratulations are in order for Midtown’s Loca Luna. October marks 20
years of serving tapas and there’s a new chef in town. Javier Viera is the new
Executive Chef and he’s shaking things up. In a press statement, Viera said, “I look
forward to working with the team to push the menu to new heights and take things
in a new and exciting direction.” The new addition of arroz pescador “fisherman’s
rice” sounds especially tasty. Alpharetta’s new Coalition Food and Beverage (50 Canton St.) is now open for lunch. Chef Woolery Back’s menu is the same as dinner (save for wood grilled
entrees) and served Tues.-Fri. from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Watershed has a new weekly lunch menu Tues.-Fri. from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. There’s a
meat and three in a Benton box with fried chicken, bbq pork, macaroni salad, greens
and a deviled egg. Appetizers like chanterelles with blueberries, sungold tomatoes,
and cashews sound intriguing and we also spotted peach churros. Peach. Churros.
Bubble tea is coming to Emory Pointe when Boba Theory opens in the former
Paradise Biryani Pointe.
The Georgia restaurant Association named Federico Castellucci (Iberian Pig, Cooks
& Soldiers, Bar Mercado, Double Zero, Sugo, Recess) Restaurateur of the Year at the
12 th annual GRACE Award ceremony on August 12. Aria’s Gerry Klaskala went home
with a Lifetime Achievement trophy.
